I have been wanting to start a forum for quite some time and it's all because of the show Heroes.

I used to like the show quite a bit during its first season. (I no longer watch it.) I enjoyed the idea of people discovering unique abilities and trying to come to terms with their personal transformations. When I discovered that NBC had a large active Heroes forum I thought it would be interesting to look at. Besides, what better place to talk about extreme possibilities than at a forum for a show that is all about extreme possibilities?

My mistake was in assuming that the Heroes forum would be safe harbor for people who had experienced reality-challenging experiences in their ordinary life.

Luckily, I did more lurking than posting.

There were many people who stuck their necks out—whispering about experiences they had. I was as impressed by their courage. I was equally shocked at the response they received. They were savagely torn apart by a few self-righteous people who were always hiding behind the defense of "rational thought" and "scientific logic."

Many people requested that the admins create a private area for the serious discussion of emerging abilities and extreme possibilities—some place that would be sheltered from the general populace on the forum who seemed to prefer the dreary safety of fictional ramblings and show minutiae.

It would have been a fairly simple thing to do, but it never happened.
